Among the most notable transactions were the trades of Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers, Mikko Rantanen to the Dallas Stars, and Scott Laughton to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Brad Marchand's Departure from Boston


In a move that marks the end of an era, the Boston Bruins traded veteran winger and team captain Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers. Marchand, who spent 16 seasons with the Bruins and was the last remaining player from their 2011 Stanley Cup victory, was exchanged for a conditional second-round draft pick. This pick could escalate to a first-rounder if the Panthers advance two playoff rounds and Marchand participates in at least 50% of postseason games. Boston will also retain half of Marchand's salary. 


At 36, Marchand has remained a productive player, tallying 21 goals and 47 points in 61 games this season. His departure signifies Boston's commitment to a rebuild, especially as contract extension talks with the pending unrestricted free agent had stalled. For the Panthers, acquiring Marchand adds experience and offensive prowess to a team aiming to defend its Stanley Cup title. 


Mikko Rantanen's Journey to Dallas


The Dallas Stars made a significant splash by acquiring Finnish forward Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes. In return, the Hurricanes received forward Logan Stankoven, along with first-round picks in 2026 and 2027, and third-round picks in the same years. Rantanen's journey this season has been eventful. He was initially traded from the Colorado Avalanche to the Hurricanes less than two months prior. With his contract set to expire, Rantanen chose Dallas over an extended stay in Carolina. This season, he has amassed 27 goals and 43 assists, totaling 70 points, which ranks him 11th in the league. The Stars, currently second in the Central Division, acquired Rantanen to bolster their roster in pursuit of Stanley Cup contention. 


Scott Laughton's New Chapter with Toronto


The Philadelphia Flyers traded long-time player Scott Laughton to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In return, the Flyers received forward Nikita Grebenkin and a first-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, while sending Laughton, a fourth-round pick in 2025, and a sixth-round pick in 2027 to the Leafs. The Flyers also retain 50% of Laughton's remaining contract. 


Laughton, 30, scored 27 points this season and has career totals of 265 points in 661 games. Grebenkin, a 21-year-old prospect from Russia, has nine goals and 12 assists for the AHL's Toronto Marlies this season. Additionally, the Flyers traded forward Andrei Kuzmenko to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.

The New York Islanders traded Brock Nelson and prospect William Dufour to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Cal Ritchie, Oliver Kylington, a first-round pick in 2026 or 2027, and a conditional third-round pick in 2028.
